Bunn Coffee Maker I have always had Bunn Coffee makers and my last one lasted 12 years at which point recently it just gave out. I bought this unit to replace my old Bunn and shipping was quick and everything arrived in one piece. The unit looks ok but it appears that Bunn has certainly cut corners compared to older units made years ago as the unit looks very cheaply made. The unit brews a pot of coffee within about three minutes and coffee itself is good. The issue is after about 4 days, I started smelling this awful burning smell in my house almost like plastic or wires melting. After sniffing around every electrical item in my home, I finally walked into the kitchen and smelled the coffee maker which is where the smell is coming from. It smells like something is burning or melting inside the unit. The unit itself is very hot to the touch on the outside which models made years ago were never that way. I have sent in an email to Bunn and am awaiting their response on my problem. I am afraid…
Good benefits, couple issues that may not be a problem for you This is probably the fastest drip machine you can get. As soon as you close the lid it begins dripping. Very cool. 3 Stars though because somehow there is always a few drips of water underneath the rear edge of the machine… and with our hard water, doesn’t take long to leave a scaley film on the counter where it sits. I’m not sure how it’s leaking… or if it’s some condensation or what. Also – I wash the pot every couple days in the sink with one of those plastic brushes that has the soap inside….. spinning it around the inside I totally popped through the glass shattering it. I’ve done this same thing for about 20 years and never had that happen. I’m not rough on it – I clean all our wine glasses, drink glasses, and this in the same way – by hand. So seems the pot is a little too thin and fragile. I’m going to keep it though – I hear they have great customer service so hopefully replace to fix the possible leak, and maybe the pot. Improved spray nozzle, NO burning odor, NO complaints I had a 2006 Bunn Speed Brew for about 10 years, but it started leaking cold water. I found that there were cracks around the spray nozzle, so had to get a new coffee maker. I have been a Bunn fan for many years, but was hesitant to buy another due to several negative reviews and comments about an electrical burning smell, the less inferior construction, more plastic, and being made in China now. I looked at the top three or four brands/models, and all had negative reviews that made me second-guess myself. Ultimately, I decided to take a chance on Bunn again because I like my coffee ASAP, and a 3-4 minute brew time beats out all of the fancier options that other machines offer.My order arrived in two days, was packaged well, and all parts were there. Other than the stainless front (where logo is) and the newer carafe design, this machine appears to be exactly the same in size, shape, and quality as my 2006 Speed Brew model.
